Network Renewal Project: Concrete Cutting and Cabling Installation This Week

Network Renewal

Current Updates 

Stay informed with regular updates as construction progresses. We’ll keep you posted on project milestones, potential disruptions, and other important details. 

Network renewal work updates effective July 6 to 12 with after-hours concrete cutting in the 200 and 300 blocks and network cabling installation in the 100 and 900 blocks. Expect evening noise and narrower corridors. No planned closures or major network disruptions.

Upcoming Activities

Week of June 29 - July 12

Location: 100 Block, 200 Block, 300 Block of the Main Campus Building, and 900 Block at the Prince George Campus

Work:

  • After-hours concrete cutting in the 200 and 300 blocks (all three levels)
  • Installation of new network cabling in the 100 block (all three levels) and the 900 block

 Expected Impacts:

🔊 Noise: Elevated noise levels in the evenings.

🚧 Access: No planned closures or reroutes. Some corridors may be narrower, please go around construction areas where needed.

🖥️ Network: Disruptions are not anticipated but may occur during critical connection points.

A more detailed update identifying specific blocks will be available next week. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we strengthen CNC’s digital infrastructure.

About the Project

CNC is working to bring you a better-connected campus. By upgrading core networking infrastructure and replacing outdated systems, the College is future proofing its digital environment for students, staff, and faculty at all CNC campuses. These improvements reflect CNC’s commitment to rejuvenating infrastructure as part of our institutional goals.

The Network Renewal Project aligns with CNC’s Strategic Plan (lhulh whuts’odutel’eh – Learning Together) under Priority 3.5: Rejuvenate College Infrastructure. This project supports long-term goals to strengthen connectivity, enhance access to digital tools, and create a more connected experience across all CNC campuses.

Key Highlights of the Project

  • Funded by the Ministry of Infrastructure
  • Upgraded network infrastructure
  • Better Wi-Fi coverage, faster speeds, and improved reliability
  • All Wi-Fi Access Points are being replaced and updated
  • Alignment with institutional goals to enhance technology and infrastructure

Project Timeline

  • April 2023: Campus-wide Wi-Fi access point replacements done
  • June 2024: Eduroam Wi-Fi network officially launched
  • Fall 2024: Network Design
  • May 2025: Pre-Construction Phase
  • June 16, 2025: Construction Begins
  • July 6, 2025: After-hours concrete cutting in 200 and 300 blocks (All 3 levels). Installation of new cabling in the 100 block (all 3 levels) and 900 block.
  • Completion Date: End of March 2026 (estimated)

Impact on Campus

As the Network Renewal Project progresses into construction, you may experience temporary disruptions, including brief outages, reduced connectivity, and equipment installation in your area. These interruptions will vary by location and timing.

We understand these disruptions may be inconvenient. Every effort will be made to keep them as brief and localized as possible. Advance notices and updates will be shared regularly.
