How Interlibrary Loans Work

Don’t have what you're looking for? We can source it from partner libraries for you!

Steps to Request an Interlibrary Loan:

  1. Direct Request: Complete the CNC Interlibrary Loan Form

  1. From Our Database: Explore our online databases. If full text isn't available, click “Request an Interlibrary Loan” and fill in the prompt.

  1. BC Union Catalogues (Illume): Search and request books or media directly using the Illume link

We will get in touch once your item is ready for pickup. Anticipate 2-5 business days for articles and 7-14 for books or other physical items. Books are typically due in 3 weeks, with potential for renewals from some lending libraries.

Important to Note:

  • Some charges may apply in specific cases.

  • Full e-books are generally not available for interlibrary loans due to publisher restrictions. We will source a print version if possible.

  • Reach out directly through BC ELN Illume (SHAREit) or cnclibrary@cnc.bc.ca for libraries outside BC ELN.

Canada Post Strike: Important Update

The Canada Post strike is affecting how we handle physical materials. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Books from Other Libraries: We can’t get books or other physical items from libraries outside of CNC while the strike is happening. If you need a part of a book, like a chapter, request a chapter scan instead of the whole book.
  • Books Between CNC Campuses: You can still request books or materials from other CNC campus collections. These are not affected by the strike.
  • Articles and Chapter Scans: Requests for journal articles or book chapter scans will still be processed as usual, no delays here.
  • Need Help? If you have questions or need something specific, let us know. We might be able to get a chapter scan or even buy an e-book version for you.

We’re here to help, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
