CNC is actively engaged in international development projects around the world. These collaborations include formal partnerships with post-secondary institutions abroad, faculty consulting, student volunteering and support for civil society organizations. Current Projects

The Pacific Alliance – EFE Projects

The Pacific Alliance Education for Employment Program for sustainable development and skills for employment in the extractive sector of the Pacific Alliance is a regional program implemented in four Latin American countries (Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru).

CNC has successfully secured funding for two projects in Chile and Peru. 
The projects are funded by the Global Affairs Canada and are administered by the Colleges and Institutes Canada.

PAP – B.01 Chile

A 3-year project between a consortium of three Canadian colleges, College of New Caledonia, Nova Scotia Community College, and Niagara College, and three Chilean colleges, CTF CEDUC Antofagasta, Don Bosco Antofagasta, and Don Bosco Calama.

The project seeks to improve and develop training for qualified workforce that meets current and future industry needs and standards. The final beneficiaries will be the youth, men, and women who access jobs linked to the extractive sector in the member countries of the Pacific Partnership (Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru).

CNC is the project lead on the Canadian side, while CFT CEDUC is the lead on the Chilean side.

Project duration: October 15th, 2018 to October 14th, 2021.

  • Curriculum review, competency-based training in trades (Electrical and Renewable energy),
  • Applied research,
  • Gender equality,
  • Short-term training program entrepreneurship and indigenous people,
  • Environmental sustainability, and
  • Industry engagement

PAP – B.07 Peru

A 3-year project between a consortium of three Canadian colleges, College of New Caledonia, Nova Scotia Community College, and British Columbia Institute of Technology, and one technical institute in Arequipa, Peru, Instituto Superior de Educación Pública Honorio Delgado Espinoza.

The project seeks to improve and develop training for qualified workforce that meets current and future industry needs and standards. The final beneficiaries will be the youth, men, and women who access jobs linked to the extractive sector in the member countries of the Pacific Partnership (Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru).

CNC will provide support to Nova Scotia Community College on the Canadian side, while ISEP- Honorio Delgado Espinoza is the lead on the Peruvian side.

Project duration: October 15th, 2018 to October 14th, 2021.

  • Curriculum review, competency-based training in trades (Heavy Duty Mechanics and Metallurgy)
  • Applied research,
  • Gender equality,
  • Environmental sustainability, and
  • Industry engagement

Canadian partners will base the planning and implementation of this institutional partnership in their extensive international and local experience. NSCC, CNC, and BCIT will work with ISEP-HDE and all relevant stakeholders in strengthening the two selected programs – Heavy machinery and metallurgy. The ultimate goal will be to create industry-relevant programs for women and men that enable them to successfully enter the labor market and gain meaningful employment.

Completed Projects

Improving Skills Training for Employment Program (ISTEP - 07)

A 3-year partnership between Shinyanga Vocational Training Centre (VTC) and two Canadian colleges, the College of New Caledonia (CNC) and College of the Rockies (COTR), both located in British Columbia. The project is designed to support Shinyanga VTC improve the quality of vocational training, strengthen linkages between employers and training programs, and establish new vocational programming in response to labour market intelligence.

The project is funded by the Global Affairs Canada and is administered by the Colleges and Institutes Canada.

Project duration: April 1st, 2016 to March 31st, 2019.
