Adult Upgrading Grant

The Adult Upgrading Grant (AUG) is a provincial government-funded program that provides needs-based grants to help off-set the costs associated with program/course(s) fees, tuition, workbooks, unsubsidized childcare and transportation for learners most in need of financial assistance enrolled in Adult Basic and Special Education programs including:

  • Academic Upgrading (ACDU)
  • English Language Studies (ENLA)
  • Focus Employment Training (FOCUS)
  • Job, Education and Training (JET)

How to Apply

To apply for the Adult Upgrading Grant:

  • Apply for your program (Academic Upgrading, English Language, or JET/TARGET) with the Office of the Registrar.
  • Download the AUG application. Read over the first two pages of the application for further information and to determine eligibility.
  • Complete the application in full.  Information and signatures from partners or guardians may be required.
  • You must provide proof of income for the previous tax year (2023) with your application. Spousal and/or parental proof of income may also be required. Acceptable documents include, but are not limited to:
      • Canada Revenue Notice of Assessment (Tax Assessment); or
      • T1 General (must include line 15000).
      • Please contact us if you have any questions about what documents can be submitted.
  • Do not send your Social Insurance Number (SIN) by e-mail.  If your SIN is not already on file, you will be asked to enter it directly into your CNC account.
  • E-mail your completed application and proof of income to finaid@cnc.bc.ca or you can drop off your application and documents in-person to the Financial Aid and Awards office in room 1-753 on Monday, Wednesday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm or Tuesday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

After your application has been reviewed, you will receive an e-mail with further details. If your application is approved, then your Upgrading, JET, or ENLA tuition and fees will be covered by the grant, and you will not be required to pay.  If your application is declined, then you will be responsible for payment of all your fees to keep your seat. Incomplete applications will be declined if not completed within the timeline requested.

If you are applying for AUG after you have already paid your tuition/fees and your application is approved, you may be eligible for a refund.

If you have any questions about AUG funding, please e-mail finaid@cnc.bc.ca.
