Applied Research and Innovation

Connecting researchers and community partners

Applied Research connects industry, business and community partners with the expertise and facilities at our College to conduct research and development, solve business challenges, and take advantage of market opportunities.

Collaborations with partners in our community help drive innovation in the Northern BC region and produce direct economic and social benefits in our communities. Research projects also enhance the quality of college programs by providing students with learning opportunities that go beyond the classroom.

We work with a wide range of business and community partners. Check out our ongoing applied research projects page for more information on the types of work that we do. If your business or organization would like to partner with the College, our staff available to discuss your project and how we can help.

Students

Applied Research and Innovation at the College of New Caledonia provides opportunities for students to work on research projects. This opportunity is not just part-time employment; it offers you valuable work experience working alongside experienced researchers and industry partners to provide solutions to innovation challenges.

If you are interested in becoming involved on a project, please contact haydenp1@cnc.bc.ca  .

The experience of working in the AR&I department was really interesting at both academic and personal level. This department is formed by a professional, friendly, respectful and multicultural team. During my stay, I was able to learn about different topics, such as energy crops and Canadian lumber industry, which helped me to gain experience and perspective in different fields.

Industry

Applied Research at the College of New Caledonia works with you to conduct collaborative research utilizing the expertise of our technical staff, faculty, and students at the college to work towards solutions to your challenges. Our team specializes in a broad range of topics including Forestry, Clean-Energy, Off-Grid irrigation, UAV’s and more! We can help you:

  • Design, develop, test or improve products and services
  • Build prototypes and test new technology
  • Data and statistical analysis
  • Accessing research funding
Working with the crew from CNC has been excellent, the enthusiasm they bring to the project on top of the technical knowledge is contagious and really gets you thinking about what could be, not what is currently. We had some unforeseen obstacles, namely beavers, which caused many headaches along the way but Sorin’s solution of creating a suction system not only allowed us to leave the wildlife be as they are but increased the potential of the project by creating additional pressure from the same water.
