Convocation 2025 Graduates

The College of New Caledonia (CNC) is proud to celebrate the accomplishments of more than 1,200 graduates from the Class of 2025 with convocation ceremonies in Prince George and Quesnel. These students will join a growing network of more than 100,000 CNC alumni.

Ceremonies are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 at the CN Centre in Prince George, and 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10 at CNC’s North Cariboo Campus in Quesnel. The Prince George event will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.

“Convocation is a time to celebrate not just academic success, but the perseverance, growth, and community spirit that our students embody,” said Cindy Heitman, President of the College of New Caledonia. “The Class of 2025 has shown remarkable resilience and dedication, and we are proud to honour their achievements. As they join our alumni community, we know they will continue to make a meaningful impact in their careers and communities they serve.”

Of the 1,312 graduates this year, more than 700 have registered to participate in the celebrations. The ceremonies will recognize students across CNC’s four academic schools: Access and Continuing Education; Health Sciences; Human Services, University Studies, and Business; and Trades and Technologies.

Awards of Excellence

Convocation will also showcase the inspiring journeys of students who have excelled throughout their time at CNC, highlighting the dedication and resilience that define this year’s graduating class.

Among this year’s graduates is Melyssa Renshaw, who is receiving her diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Renshaw is also the recipient of the Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal Award for achieving the highest overall average grade in a diploma program of all graduating students this year.

“The past two years have been the most humbling and rewarding experience of my life. I am deeply honoured to receive the Governor General’s Academic Medal — a recognition I carry with immense gratitude,” she said. “I extend my sincere thanks to the College of New Caledonia for offering a program that not only prepared me for a career in Diagnostic Medical Sonography but also instilled essential life skills and confidence in me. I would also like to thank my family and friends for their encouragement and extensive support throughout this journey.”

This year’s Mary John Award of Excellence is awarded to Kerry Thomas. Thomas is currently enrolled in CNC’s Academic Upgrading program with plans to continue his studies in Natural Resources and Forest Technology. This award is given to a student who exemplifies commitment to community service and the revitalization of language and culture.

"Over two years have lapsed but it feels like one. Despite the hiccups, I went to the depths and achieved things that weren't on my mind back then. Gianakaci (thank you)," said Thomas.

The 2025 recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal of Inclusion, Democracy, and Reconciliation is Grace Burke. Burke is graduating from the Social Service Worker University Transfer Diploma program and during her time at CNC, she demonstrated a deep commitment to social justice and community wellness.

Members of the media are welcome to attend both ceremonies. We recommend arriving at 11.45 am for the Prince George ceremony and 12.00 pm for the Quesnel ceremony.
