Research objective:

The purpose of monitoring is to measure biotic and abiotic responses to various treatment types, a control plantation and undisturbed mature forest types within the Project area. Features impacting moose habitat are of particular interest for monitoring and include but are not limited to: use of the units by moose, abundance and composition of tree and other vegetation species, air temperature and moisture, light regimes below the canopy and snow interception.

Start date – end date: May 2024 – March 2026

Partner: McLeod Lake Indian Band (MLIB)

Funder: Society for Ecosystem Restoration in Northern BC (SERNbc), Fisheries and Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP)

Research Lead: Vanessa Uschenko

Activities being carried out include applying treatment types and controls, collecting field data related to tree species composition, understory vegetation, soil and air temperature, available light, snow interception, and detecting the presence of wildlife. The findings of this research service will be shared with the MLIB project roundtable and reported on in alignment with FWCP frameworks.
