CNC’s student union (CNCSU) has made a substantial donation to their endowment fund for student awards. Of the $63,471.96 donation, almost $60,000 is going towards the principal balance of the fund, ensuring a legacy of financial awards for years to come.
“By prioritizing student support and financial assistance, the Student Union aims to support and promote equal opportunities, enhance student welfare, and promote success for all students,” said Leila Abubakar-Depenau, CNCSU’s executive director. “Ultimately, we want to create an inclusive and thriving academic community.”
CNCSU’s endowment fund supports $5000 worth of student bursaries annually, with ten awards of $500 available each year for full-time students completing their first semester. Applicants should have a career objective, have demonstrated an ability to reach their goals, and show financial need.
“We’re grateful for the student union’s continued generosity,” said Shelley Carter-Rose, vice president student affairs at CNC. “Pursuing post-secondary education does require students to have financial supports in place which assists the student to focus on their studies. Generous donations such as these can help students focus on their learning.”
The remaining $3,500 of the donation was used to support awards during the 2022-2023 academic year.
