Today we are pleased to celebrate International Women’s Day across CNC’s campuses. I ask you to join me in marking the contributions of women across the college community as well as in the communities we serve.
The theme for International Women’s Day is to break the bias. This theme includes creating a gender-equal world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. It is also about promoting diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as celebrating and valuing differences.
Women at CNC are leading significant portions of our lhulh whuts’odutel’eh | Learning Together strategic plan, helping to making CNC a better organization that will be more responsive to community needs. They are actively working to welcome young women who have turned to CNC for new opportunities across many fields of study. They are bringing new ideas and initiatives forward to ensure we do better for students and help fulfill their goals.
I encourage you listen to the premiere of the CNC Podcast as we hear from Mandy Newcomb, the program coordinator for the Professional Cook Program. Mandy offers insight into the barriers that women in trades have faced through their careers, and how she and others are working to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for students.
I want to express my thanks to the many talented and accomplished women taking part in programs at CNC as students, and to the staff members making progress in CNC’s vision of learning together, changing lives, and creating futures.
