Grades and Withdrawals
The College of New Caledonia will continue to use existing grading models for the Spring 2020 (January-April) and subsequent semesters. CNC will not introduce a pass/fail option. This decision was made with great consideration, reflecting the requirements of our university-transfer and professional programs. CNC will continue to ensure the integrity of our students’ academic records, including students’ ability to progress through programs, have transfer options, be recognized by accrediting agencies, and continue to have access to scholarships and other funding opportunities. We encourage students to complete all coursework and have many options for academic support, including free one-on-one tutoring during this difficult time.
We recognize the particular challenges of the transition between modes of delivery, and will offer the following options to students:
If you feel this transition has already compromised your performance, you may withdraw without academic penalty from your course or courses by April 14. As per the Course Calendar, a ‘W’ will be recorded, but will not impact your GPA.
If you’re not yet sure of the impact, you may wait for final grades to be posted and, if you believe the shift to online teaching and learning has, in fact, affected your final result, send an email to the Registrar’s Office (registrarsoffice@cnc.bc.ca) no later than May 1, 2020. Again, a ‘W’ will be applied as above.
As courses are being completed, students will not be eligible for a tuition refund.
Please be aware that withdrawing from courses may impact financial assistance or your immigration standing. Before exercising either option, we recommend and encourage you consult with Student and International Student Services, and with the appropriate funding and immigration agencies.
Please note: this applies to programs which run on the January to April semester. If your program semester runs beyond May 1, 2020, please continue to watch for updates.
Information about emergency financial aid for students will be communicated the week of April 14th, 2020.
Sincerely,
Chad Thompson
