Why It Matters

From coursework platforms to campus Wi-Fi, your data is constantly in use. Protecting it helps prevent identity theft and ensures safer online experiences.

Quick Tips to Protect Your Data

  • Check Privacy Settings: Regularly review and adjust app and platform privacy settings.
  • Be Wi-Fi Smart: Avoid using public networks for sensitive tasks unless you’re using a VPN.
  • Use Strong Passwords: Choose unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication.
  • Think Before Sharing: Limit the amount of personal information you share online.

Privacy and AI

While generative AI tools offer many benefits, they may collect sensitive data without clear consent. It’s important to review privacy settings on AI-driven platforms and use these tools responsibly. Balancing the benefits of AI with privacy protection helps ensure your personal information and mental well-being remain secure. Know when to use generative AI and when to seek human support.

Take Control of Your Data

Track your digital footprint, use secure passwords, and opt out of unnecessary data sharing. Simple habits can go a long way in protecting your privacy.

How to Avoid Scams

  • Ignore unsolicited requests for personal information.
  • Verify links and senders before clicking.
  • Watch for red flags such as urgent demands or offers that seem too good to be true. Report any suspicious activity to the IT department.
  • When making new friends online, watch for sudden changes in behavior and scrutinize any requests for money or account access.

Take Charge

Small actions can make a big difference in keeping your data secure. Report suspicious activity. Report suspicious activity and contact the Privacy Office if you suspect a privacy incident or breach has occurred.
