DESCRIPTION:

This course explores Métis identity through Métis material culture and its ethical, economic, aesthetic, and functional relationship to the formation of Métis nationhood. Learners will engage in embodied learning through hands-on reproduction of Métis art objects, (including beadwork, caribou hair tufting, finger weaving), and readings from the work of Métis scholars. This investigative work will be mapped by learners through substantive written work providing them with insight into the historical and contemporary socio-political identity of national and regional Métis communities.
