WEGD Showcase

The creative work of College of New Caledonia (CNC) Web and Graphic Design (WEGD) diploma students is on display for the community at a year-end digital showcase.

The annual year-end showcase is a staple of the WEGD program. With the COVID-19 pandemic transitioning all WEGD courses online this year, an in-person showcase was not a possibility. Despite the restrictions, the class created a strong online community and worked together to create a digital platform to showcase their work.

“The past academic year has been challenging for everyone, but it hasn't slowed down the Web and Graphic Design students,” said CNC WEGD instructor Sean Siddals. “They participated in an internship, developed a robust online community, and created a lot of great work that deserves the spotlight.”

CNC’s WEGD program offers students the opportunity to discover and cultivate their creative side in all forms of design and media. The digital showcase features innovative work in web and graphic design, illustration, 3D modelling, and interactive digital media created by students.

WEGD student Deon Meadows has spent the better part of the year designing digital content he hopes will get in front of potential clients at the portfolio showcase.

“It’s an opportunity to display the skills, abilities, and knowledge I’ve learned throughout the program,” he said. “My instructors pushed me to be my very best to create awesome designs. They boosted my creativity and helped me be more detail oriented.”

The digital showcase features student work produced both in class and during internships. This year, students gained hands-on industry experience at CFUR 88.7 FM, Community Futures, and Shift Creative Solutions. CFUR Station Manager Ian Gregg was pleased to have a crew of WEGD students producing quality content for the station’s social media and online networks.

It was terrific to see their progress from start to finish as the semester progressed,” he said. “They brought fresh eyes and much needed pizazz to our content."
