Civil Engineering Technologists work in a variety of industries including construction, forestry, mining, oil and gas, and transportation. They work as part of an engineering team to design, plan, inspect, and troubleshoot a wide range of construction projects. Technologists may prepare construction specifications including cost and material estimates, as well as develop project schedules and reports. They may also supervise or conduct field surveys and inspect and test construction materials. Additionally, they may inspect or test topography, soils, drainage and water supply systems, roads, and structures.
Many technologists split their time between office and field work making this an excellent career choice if you enjoy a schedule with lots of variety. In the field, civil engineering technologists work outdoors in all weather conditions both in towns and cities and in remote and rural settings.
Some program graduates continue their education and complete a bridging program to complete a university degree in engineering.
Civil Engineering Technologists are in high demand across north-central BC and the demand is expected to grow as older workers retire. You could be among the first local graduates to help fill this growing need.
The admissions requirements for the Civil Engineering Technology program are planned as follows:
Don’t meet the requirements? No fear, CNC will be offering a Civil Engineering Technology Access Program starting September 2019 – this program will allow you to upgrade any missing courses while getting comfortable with college life. The best part is, each year we will save 4 seats in the Civil Engineering Technology Program for students who successfully complete the Access Program at CNC.
