Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a research-based framework that addresses learner diversity at the beginning of the design or planning effort. It is a framework that provides all students with equal opportunities to learn. It encourages instructors to design flexible curricula that meets the needs of all learners.

Research has identified is that all learners are unique. UDL evolved as a proactive approach to enhancing curriculum to provide multiple pathways to learning. Reducing or eliminating barriers interfering with a learner's ability to achieve their best learning opportunity is part of this solution. The goal of UDL is to develop expert learners capable of continuous development in this era of knowledge. UDL strives to provide opportunity for all to achieve their optimal learning experience.
