As an international student from Mexico pursuing a Business Management Diploma at the College of New Caledonia (CNC), Dahir Avila Islas shares an inspiring story of academic and personal development.

“If you have a main goal and make a big effort, you can do everything you want”

Dahir's choice of CNC was strategic and thoughtful. After carefully researching different schools in British Columbia, he found CNC to be the most affordable option. He recalls, "when I sent an email to get information, the respondent was so kind and answered all my questions clearly either the same day or the next day." This responsiveness contrasted sharply with other institutions that took weeks to reply. The Business Management Diploma program and the welcoming city amenities further solidified his decision.

Balancing work and studies have been a key part of Dahir's experience. Working part-time at Costco's bakery and as a Library Assistant, he embodies the spirit of hard work and determination. "It's not easy," he admits, "but if you have a main goal and make a big effort, you can do everything you want."

For Dahir, CNC has been more than just an educational institution. He highlights the kindness of instructors and staff, who provide quick solutions and helpful examples. He states, "the instructors and the employees are so kind. They always give me a solution quickly and clearly." His most important lesson? To have respect for everyone and live with an absence of prejudice. To incoming international students, his advice is clear: "focus on your studies and try to get a balance between student life, working life, and social life."

Dahir's story is a testament to the opportunities available at CNC - a place where all students can pursue their academic goals.
