    • July 30, 2024

Ophelia Fatima Guerra, a CNC alumna found the perfect fit with CNC's Post-Diploma in Human Resources Management while seeking an affordable program in Canada. "Offering a Post-Diploma in Human Resources Management by CNC came at a very good moment," Ophelia recalls. Her interest in human resources was inspired by her parents, both HR professionals in the Philippines. "It is my father who motivated me to pursue a career in human resources," she shares.

Upon arriving at CNC, Ophelia was amazed by the rich diversity and welcoming atmosphere of the college. "The rich diversity of CNC's culture astounded me," she says. The friendly environment and knowledgeable faculty enhanced her learning experience, and the relationships she formed in the classroom provided a sense of family, despite being far from home.

"The relationships we formed in the classroom provided us a family here in Canada, even though we came here alone. That was the nicest aspect of the experience."

One of Ophelia's favorite parts of the program was the Recruitment and Selection course, which helped her transition from a sales background to a HR career.

"The Recruitment and Selection course I took helped me realize that Human Resource Management is more than just an administrative or office job; it also offers you the chance to interact with people, learn about their aspirations, and understand what drives them," she explains.

She emphasizes that while the program is challenging, it is also immensely rewarding for those who are passionate about connecting with people and supporting both staff and the company. "It is challenging! It will not be hard to finish and love it, though, if you have the heart and drive to connect with people," Ophelia says.

CNC provided Ophelia with support throughout her studies, from student services offering tutoring and advising, to opportunities for leadership. Her role as a Student Representative on the Board of Governors allowed her to gain insights into decision-making processes and develop leadership skills. She notes, "CNC made me realize that even though I'm new in the country, I don't need to start from zero because my experience and skill set matter."
