The CNC community will spend the afternoon on Sunday March 21st on sharing personal experiences and debating actions to eliminate racial discrimination.

The College will host a webinar from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. this Sunday to mark International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The seminar is open to the college community as well as members of the public.

“The experiences of many members of the CNC community offer us diverse perspectives to foster greater discussion,” said Dr. Tamara Chambers-Richards, CNC’s dean of health sciences and leader of an on-going decolonizing education discussion group at the college. “Sharing these experiences and engaging in dialogue can give us a shared path forward to better understand and build more inclusive communities.”

For the first hour of the event, a series of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) representatives will hold small group discussions. They will share a recent experience with racism or anti-racism, their response, and their recommendation to generate conversation on actions that can be taken to eliminate racial discrimination.

The second hour will see a panel discuss theories of systemic racism and commitments for confronting and combating racism.

”At CNC, it’s critical for us to build an educational community that’s welcoming and inclusive. I am grateful to all the individuals who have volunteered to share their experiences so we can learn how we can collectively challenge and end racial discrimination,” said Dr. Dennis Johnson, CNC’s president and CEO.
