CNC will take part in the Moose Hide Campaign on February 11th to end violence against women and children. We are seeking your help to make the campaign a success.

The Moose Hide Campaign is a grassroots movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous men and boys who are standing up against violence towards women and children. Premier John Horgan noted, “Over half of the women in our province have experienced physical or sexual violence at some point in their lives after age 16. In Canada, Indigenous women are three times more likely than non-Indigenous women to experience domestic violence and three times more likely than non-Indigenous women to be killed by someone they know.”

Wearing a moose hide pin signifies one’s commitment to honour, respect, and protect the women and children in one’s life and to work together to end violence against women and children. Participants may also take part in a day of fasting if they choose.

The inspiration for the Moose Hide Campaign came from a hunting expedition in 2011 near Highway 16 when Paul Lacerte’s daughter, Raven, skinned a moose to feed the family over winter. The proximity to Highway 16 sparked the idea that moose hide could be used as a symbol to stop violence.

CNC’s activities will include

  1. Providing Moose Hide Campaign pins for students and employees at the College’s six campuses;
  2. Taking part in the National Moose Hide Campaign Day from 8:30 to 11:45 a.m.; and
  3. Sharing stories of meaning and change on our social media sites. We encourage you to share your thoughts and tag #MooseHideCampaignDay.

We look forward to working together to help end violence against women and children as we promote gender equity, healthy relationships, and positive ideas of masculinity by speaking out against gender-based violence.
