According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, cases of a new novel coronavirus first appeared in Wuhan City, China, in December 2019.
On Jan. 28, B.C.’s Minister of Health Adrian Dix and B.C.’s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry released a joint statement announcing the province’s first confirmed case of novel coronavirus. In the statement, Minister Dix and Dr. Henry assured that “the risk of spread of this virus within British Columbia remains low at this time.”
CNC will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow any recommendation from public health authorities. For more information and updates on the coronavirus, please follow the websites below:

- Washing your hands regularly
- Promptly disposing of used tissues in the waste basket or garbage
- Coughing and sneezing into your shirt sleeve rather than your hands
- Staying home when you are ill
- Keeping your hands away from your face
- Keeping common surface areas like doorknobs, light switches and keyboards, clean and disinfected
- Eating healthy foods and staying physically active to keep your immune system strong
