Indigenous Culture Week  March 24 - 29

Join us for a week of celebration, learning, and connection as we honor Indigenous cultures, traditions, and teachings. Our diverse lineup of events, led by esteemed Elders, cultural advisors, and local artists, offers something for everyone. Whether you’re seeking to deepen your knowledge, explore Indigenous arts and crafts, or simply participate in a shared community experience, Indigenous Cultural Week is an opportunity to engage with and celebrate Indigenous heritage.

Please note: Some events require registration to ensure enough materials and space for participants. Be sure to sign up in advance to secure your spot!

Event Highlights:

Monday, March 24 at the CNC Atrium
  • 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Opening Ceremony
    Join us for the Opening Ceremony featuring smudging, a land acknowledgment and welcoming by CNC, and a blessing by Elder Ellie Peters.
  • 1:30 PM: Traditional Dancers Performance
  • 2:00 PM: Guest Speaker, Doreen Patrick – Dakelh/Southern Carrier Language
  • Followed by cake & refreshments in the Cafeteria
Tuesday, March 25
  • 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM at Room N211: Beading Workshop with Raine (Registration required)
  • 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Room N211: Finding Your Métis Ancestors with Lori Donald, Cultural Advisor, NCMA (Registration required)
Wednesday, March 26 at the Cafeteria
  • 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM: Salve Making & Plant Medicines with Sharon Primeau (Registration required, light lunch available)
Thursday, March 27
  • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Room N207: Animal & Bird Teachings with Elder Ellie Peters (Registration required)
    Elder Ellie will share her wisdom on the deep connection between animals and humans, exploring their spirits, their meanings, and where they reside.

Friday, March 28
  • 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM: Indigenous Artisan MarketBring your shopping bags and pick up those unique gifts for your special someone.
  • 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the CNC Atrium: Sugarcane National Geographic Documentary
    A powerful investigation into the abuse and disappearance of children at an Indian residential school sparks a profound reckoning within the Sugarcane Reserve.
    (Smudging will be available and sharing circle to follow.)
Saturday, March 29
  • 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM: Indigenous Artisan MarketBring your shopping bags and pick up those unique gifts for your special someone.

All Week Long (8:30 AM - 4:00 PM) :

Experience the rich history and traditions of the Southern Carrier culture all week long! From 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, relax in the Elder’s and Students Gathering Space (Room S128) while watching local documentaries. Plus, don’t miss the daily Quesnel Museum exhibit, showcasing Indigenous heritage and storytelling.
