DESCRIPTION:

This course introduces dental hygiene students to oral microbiology. The basic principles of microbiology are presented in this course, with an emphasis on the relevance of these principles to human oral health. Diseases of microbial origin that concern the dental hygienist are presented to illustrate the principles of pathogenesis, host-parasite interaction, and modes of transmission. Infection control in a dental environment is emphasized.
