Sonographer using ultrasound machine

The College of New Caledonia’s Sonography Program is inviting CNC staff and students to participate as volunteer patients in an upcoming mock clinic simulation.

This hands-on learning experience allows sonography students to practice their skills in a supervised environment while offering volunteers a unique opportunity to see their own anatomy through ultrasound imaging.

Volunteer dates

  • May 4-7, 2026
  • June 1-4, 2026

Volunteers are asked to commit one to two hours and are welcome to participate more than once.

What to expect

During the session, a small handheld device called a transducer is placed on the body to capture images of internal structures using sound waves. A cool, water-based gel is applied to help produce clear images.

Ultrasound is:

  • Safe and non-invasive
  • Free of radiation
  • Commonly used to view organs and blood flow

Exams may include imaging of the:

  • Abdomen
  • Heart
  • Pelvis (uterus and ovaries)
  • Kidneys and bladder
  • Blood vessels (neck arteries or leg veins)
  • Some exams may require simple preparation, such as fasting or arriving with a full bladder

All sessions will follow appropriate PPE and safety protocols.

Why Participate?

  • Support hands-on learning for CNC sonography students
  • Experience a real clinical simulation environment
  • See your own anatomy in real time
  • Contribute to interprofessional collaboration across health programs
