Dzenes hoonzoo- good day:

During the past four months at CNC, I have been inspired by the passion and commitment of all CNC students. Student success is among my top priorities.

I appreciate how recent changes to international student permits have raised questions for all, particularly for international students.

We are learning new information. This is what we know right now:

Success and support for all students

CNC is focused on ensuring current and future students succeed at CNC. The College is privileged to have such a diverse student body including Domestic, Indigenous, and International students.

We have a support system to meet your needs. All students are encouraged to use these services to help you navigate the many student supports available.

CNC International Students

International students have contributed to classroom and campus life, and communities across northern BC. Your presence on campus helps us to grow and learn together. We will support you as Immigration and Refugee Citizenship Canada (IRCC) changes come into effect.

New study permits caps do not impact you if you are a:

  • Current student with a study permit;
  • New student starting the May 2024 Intersession term and have a confirmed visa; or,
  • New student starting the September 2024 fall term and have a confirmed visa.

All new applicants from January 22, 2024, onwards must have a “Letter of Attestation” from the province where the international student will study. The province plans to have a system in place by March 31, 2024.

What we are doing

We do not yet know about upcoming international student allotments for CNC. We believe the BC Government will soon determine new study visa numbers for CNC for September 2024, January 2025 intakes, and beyond.

Over the past two years, CNC has carefully planned for new international student enrolments. Enrolment targets will be adjusted when we know how many study permits will be available for CNC.

Our commitment to the CNC community

I thank all students for choosing CNC for their education and career advancement.

I also understand changes announced by IRCC are unsettling. As new information and/or updates become available, you will be advised.

Please be assured, that CNC looks forward to learning together, changing lives, and creating futures with you.

Snachalhuya- I thank you.
