CNC is pleased to mark Black History Month in February. On behalf of the college, I’d like to encourage you to learn more and take part in activities organized by our local community.
The Government of Canada notes this year’s theme of “Ours to tell” represents two things: an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and a commitment to learning more about the stories Black communities in Canada have to tell about their histories, successes, sacrifices and triumphs.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted events in recent years, CNC has been privileged to have an active committee of staff members working in partnership with organizations in Prince George to run Black History Month. They have worked tirelessly over the years to engage the college community and the community as a whole.
This year, several activities will take place at the college’s Prince George campus and in venues around the city. These include movies, reading and storytelling, a soccer tournament, Cinema CNC movie nights, an African music showcase, and more. Posters will be in place around the Prince George Campus, and I’ve included the details on page two for easy access.
I hope you will take some the opportunity to participate in an event and make the most of Black History Month. I also want to thank those in the college community working closely with local partners to make this month’s activities happen.
I hope for every success for your events, and the inclusion of many people in opportunities involving learning and community building.
Thank you.
