COVID-19 Update 7

Dear CNC Students and Staff,

As we begin a new month, our response to the COVID-19 outbreak at CNC will continue. The messages this week from Premier John Horgan and Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry were crystal clear. The COVID-19 pandemic is still causing a great deal of uncertainty across BC and the preventative measures that have been in place for the past three weeks are likely to remain in place until Summer.

So, for the remainder of the current term, we’ll complete our classes using alternative delivery and most services will be provided through a combination of online and telephone methods. Exams will proceed April 16-24 as scheduled using alternative delivery.  We’ll have more details to share in the coming days.

We’ll continue with increased maintenance at all campuses with a special focus on keeping high-use and touch surfaces disinfected on a continual basis. We’ll continue with reminders to wash hands frequently, practice physical distancing and if you are not feeling well, please stay home.

I was very pleased last week to hear the BC Government announce that domestic students attending BC post-secondary institutions who are experiencing financial hardship will benefit from a one-time investment of $3.5 million in emergency financial assistance. Further, the BC Government announced an additional $1.5 million to supplement the Indigenous Emergency Assistance fund.  As more information about these new programs becomes available, we’ll post details on our website.

In closing, I want to thank the entire CNC Community for stepping up during this uncertain period. I really appreciate all of your hard work and dedication. I couldn’t be more proud of the efforts and innovation I’ve seen during the past three weeks.

Thank you for your continuing dedication and support.

Dennis Johnson
