Aboriginal Liaison for CNC Nechako elected to SD 91 Board

Sarah John, Aboriginal Liaison for Nechako Region who is currently on maternity leave, is joining the local Board of School District 91 after winning a seat in the most recent municipal election.

Sarah has been with CNC since 2007.  She is Dak’elh from Saik’uz First Nation belonging to the Lusilyoo (Frog) Clan.  As Aboriginal Liaison and part-time instructor, she is a passionate advocate for inclusive post-secondary education.  As the mother of two small boys, she is also passionate about the educational system that her sons will be entering in a few short years.

Currently, Sarah is working on her PhD thesis in Aboriginal Education with a focus on culturally inclusive, place-based learning.

Sarah is looking forward to being an active Board member throughout the next four years.

“This position on the Board of SD 91 gives me an opportunity to act as a vessel and liaison between the communities of Vanderhoof and Saik’uz,” she said.  “I hope to help inform policy which is in the best interest of the children and the communities.”
