English Language Requirements

Students whose first language is not English need to submit an English Language proficiency assessment.  The College of New Caledonia commonly accepts IELTS (Academic) or TOEFL (iBT) assessments, but will accept equivalent assessments such as PTE, CAEL, and CELPIP along with others.

To meet the English Language Proficiency Requirements, you need one of the following:

English Language pathways 

Level IV – English for Academic Purposes from a BC Institution or completion of the ENLA EAP 3 level at the College of New Caledonia 

BC High School Curriculum

 English Studies 12 with a “C” grade

 Academic IELTS  Overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0

TOEFL iBT

 Overall score of 80 with no section less than 17

CAEL

 Overall of 60+ with no subtest below 60

PTE Academic

 Overall score of 59 with no section less than 55

Duolingo English Test

 Overall score of 110 and no subtest less than 105

CELPIP General

 No section less than 7

  • Official test scores have a validity period of 2 years from the date the test was written.
  • Some programs may identify a specific and/or higher English Language admission requirement.
  • Only the most common ways of meeting the English proficiency requirement have been listed in the table above. There are other acceptable substitutions for International Students to meet the English proficiency requirement for admission to the College of New Caledonia.
