The College of New Caledonia (CNC) will celebrate the achievements of more than 1,100 graduates in the Class of 2024 with ceremonies in Prince George and Quesnel. These graduates will be joining over 100,000 CNC alumni.
Ceremonies will take place at 1pm on Thursday June 6th at Prince George’s CN Centre, and 1pm on Tuesday June 11th at CNC’s North Cariboo Campus in Quesnel. The Prince George ceremony will be available via livestream.
“Convocation is the pinnacle of the student journey. We are so excited for graduates who have set goals and dedicated themselves to their studies,” says Cindy Heitman, CNC President. “As we proudly celebrate their dedication and achievements, we also want to extend our thanks to their parents, spouses, children, friends, and CNC’s faculty and staff. Their continued support toward students’ personal and professional success makes all the difference.”
Of the 1,125 graduates in the class of 2024, close to 550 have registered to take part in the ceremonies. The events will honour students in CNC’s four academic schools: access and continuing education; health sciences; human services, university studies, and business; as well as trades and technologies.
Awards of Excellence
CNC’s convocation ceremonies will feature inspiring stories of graduates who have distinguished themselves throughout their post-secondary education.
Among them will be Kiaya Morrisey of Takla First Nation, who will graduate with an Associate of Arts degree in psychology.
"I’m no longer the same person I was two years ago. Attending post-secondary and volunteering for important causes on and off campus really helped me to open up to others and feel more connected to my culture. I grew so much as a person during my time at CNC – it’s been a very good transition to prepare me for university,” Kiaya shares.
Kiaya will be honoured with the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Inclusion, Democracy, and Reconciliation for her unwavering dedication to community service, advancing human rights and promoting understanding, respect, and cooperation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, both within the college community and beyond.
At the ceremonies, CNC will also celebrate the winner of the 2024 Mary John Award of Excellence, Darien Davis, who is currently studying in University Transfer.
Julia Pryde, who is graduating from CNC’s Medical Laboratory Technology Science program will be awarded the prestigious Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal for achieving the highest overall average grade in a diploma program of all graduating students this year.
