Whenever a CNC 2010 wall calendar is purchased for $5, college students benefit as does the future health of northern B.C. residents. All proceeds from sales of the wall calendar will go towards purchasing a biological safety cabinet for the Medical Laboratory Technology program. CNC currently has only one biological safety cabinet, but two are needed so students can safely work with all kinds of body and fluid samples during their scheduled classes.
The $13,000 piece of equipment uses air to protect the integrity of the sample as well as the user, while they work with potentially infectious material.
The 12-month calendar features valuable coupons from more than a dozen local businesses and uniquely illustrates every month the diverse programs and students at CNC.
“Please help us make this project a reality so CNC graduates can provide accurate and timely test results in local clinics, labs and hospitals,” said CNC communications manager Randall Heidt. “The biological safety cabinet is the same piece of equipment our graduates will use when they are testing your fluids and tissues while awaiting your doctor’s diagnosis.”
The calendars are available for sale throughout the holiday season. Medical lab students will be selling them on site at Canadian Tire Saturday, Dec. 12 from 1- 4 p.m.
They’re also available at Northern Hardware, the CNC Bookstore and library as well as other locations around Prince George.
“We’re grateful to our sponsors who helped turn this calendar project into reality,” said Heidt.
